Philip Kolvin QC appointed board member of sports grounds safety body

The head of Cornerstone Barristers, Philip Kolvin QC, has been appointed as a board member of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority.

The SGSA is the national regulatory authority in relation to safety at sports grounds in England and Wales.

Kolvin is one of four new board members appointed by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport to a three-year term.

The other new board members are:

  • Joyce Cook: the founding and Managing Director of the Centre for Access to Football in Europe (CAFÉ) and Chair of Level Playing Field, a charity that campaigns for disabled sports fans in the UK.
  • Susan Johnson: recently retired chief executive at County Durham and Darlington Fire & Rescue Service.
  • David Mackinnon: Regional Head of Operations for Jockey Club Racecourses South West Region

Philip Kolvin QC said: “The Sports Grounds Safety Authority has played a key role in enhancing spectator safety and so helping to build the reputation and standing of our national sports. I am proud to be joining its Board, and look forward to working with it on its strategic development, both nationally and internationally.”
