Bircham Dyson Bell bolsters public law team with partner appointment

Bircham Dyson Bell has bolstered its public law practice with the hire of Matthew Smith as a partner from Capsticks.

Smith worked at BDB in the early 2000s and has also practised at the Home Office, the Treasury Solicitor’s Department and Her Majesty’s Treasury. At Capsticks he was a member of the public law team and head of information law.

At BDB, Smith will work between two departments - Litigation and Dispute Resolution and Government and Infrastructure.

Andrew Smith, Managing Partner at BDB, said: “It is a pleasure to welcome Matthew Smith back to the firm as a Partner. Matthew is a highly respected practitioner and the breadth of his experience will hugely complement our existing expertise, further strengthening our specialist regulatory and public law services.”

Matthew Smith said: “I am excited to be returning to BDB and to be working closely with the firm’s impressive Government and Infrastructure and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Teams, as well as with the wider firm.

“Public law issues arise in so many areas of practice and, working in conjunction with my colleagues, I look forward to advising BDB clients on the full range of public law matters, from judicial review and stakeholder engagement, to regulatory and professional disciplinary matters.”
