GLD lawyer wins ‘outstanding achievement by a public service barrister’ award

David Browitt of the Government Legal Department won the outstanding achievement by a public service barrister category at the inaugural Employed Bar Awards.

Other winners of the awards, which have been set up by the Bar Council, were:

  • Employed barrister of the year: Camilla de Silva, Serious Fraud Office
  • Young employed barrister of the year: Matthew Johnston, Government Legal Department
  • Employed advocate of the year (sponsored by Gray’s Inn): Matthew Gowen, Birketts LLP
  • Outstanding achievement by a barrister in a corporate organisation or solicitors’ firm (sponsored by BACFI): Hannah Laming, Peters & Peters
  • Outstanding performance by a HM Forces barrister: Commander Carolyn Kenyon, Royal Navy

More than 50 nominations had been submitted for the six categories.

Chair of the Bar, Andrew Langdon QC, said: “The winners and the shortlisted nominees, as well as the 200 employed barristers at the Awards are a demonstration of the exceptional quality we have in the employed Bar. Much of their work, until now, has not been celebrated. The Awards, as well as other work the Bar Council is committed to undertake relating to the employed Bar, is changing that trend.”
