Charlie Adan appointed interim chief executive at city council

Charlie Adan, one of the most high-profile legally-qualified chief executives in local government, has been appointed interim chief executive at Sheffield City Council.

The appointment follows John Mothersole’s announcement in October that he would be retiring from the role.

Mark Bennett, Director of HR and Customer Services at Sheffield City Council, said last week: “In line with our constitutional and democratic processes, a panel of Elected Members are recommending the appointment of Charlie Adan, an experienced interim Chief Executive who will provide stability and continuity until a permanent Chief Executive is appointed, which could take up to six months.

“It is vital that we appoint someone with the experience required for this role, providing a strong level of leadership and expertise in shaping and delivering member priorities within a large local authority organisation.

“The recruitment of a permanent position is now underway.”

In July last year Adan quit as chief executive at the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames following a change in administration.

She had been chief executive at Kingston for two years. Before that she was chief executive of Babergh and Mid Suffolk Councils.
