1 Hare Court family silk named High Court judge

Nicholas Cusworth KC has been appointed a Justice of the High Court, assigned to the Family Division.

The appointment, which will take effect from 11 January 2024, will fill a vacancy in the High Court following elevations to the Court of Appeal and confirmed retirements.

Nicholas Cusworth KC was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1986 and took Silk in 2009.

At the bar, Cusworth specialised in the law relating to financial remedy upon relationship breakdown, very often with an international element, but has significant experience in many other areas of family law. He also had an extensive practice as a Private Financial Dispute Resolution Tribunal judge, and as an Arbitrator.

In 2007 he was appointed as a Recorder, as King’s Counsel in 2009, and in 2011 a Deputy High Court Judge in the Family Division.

Cusworth also served as chair and vice-chair for the Family Law Bar Association (FLBA) between 2010 and 2013.

His appointment comes after Ruth Henke KC was named a High Court judge, also assigned to the Family Division, in September last year. Henke practised at 30 Park Place, Cardiff, where she was Head of Chambers, and 1GC, where she was a door tenant.
