BMA sets up legal practice to advise members and wider healthcare profession

BMA Law will look to advise GP practices and networks, Local Medical Committees and Clinical Commissioning Groups.

It will offer preferential rates to members and operate on a not-for-profit basis, “reinvesting any surpluses back into services for doctors”, the Association said.

Services to be offered include advice on:

• Partnerships;
• Commercial law;
• GP network support;
• Conveyancing;
• Personal injury;
• Wills and probate.

BMA Law is to work alongside a number of law firms: Mills and Reeve; New Law; MyHomeMove; Carson McDowell; CCW; Davidson Morris; and Capital Law.

Keith Ward, BMA chief executive, said: “With the creation of BMA Law we are now in the position to offer our members and other healthcare professionals a comprehensive, one-stop law firm that meets their business and personal legal needs.

“And because BMA Law is wholly owned by the BMA, we are in the unique position that any profit generated by the service will be reinvested into the Association for the ultimate benefit of all BMA members.”
