Islington legal team wins department of the year gong at LGC Awards

The team at the London Borough of Islington has been named Legal Department of the Year by the Local Government Chronicle, it has been announced.

Mansfield District Council was also highly commended in a shortlist that included Cheshire West & Chester Council, the Essex Legal Services Partnership, Northampton Borough Council, and the London Borough of Southwark.

The 2011 LGC Awards also saw Blackburn with Darwen Council take the title of Council of the Year, while North East Derbyshire District Council won in the Most Improved Council of the Year category.

Other winners included:

• Efficiency: the London Borough of Croydon
• Innovation: Staffordshire County Council
• Management team: Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council
• Workforce: Hertfordshire County Council.
