Co-op to challenge grant of planning permission for rival store

Midcounties Co-operative has been given the go ahead to challenge Forest of Dean Council’s decision to grant permission for an Aldi store in Coleford.

The council said it had received notification that Midcounties Co-operative had been given permission to judicially review the planning decision for the erection of a class A1 food store at Land at Tufthorn Avenue, Coleford following a court hearing on 14 March.

The judicial review hearing will take place on 20 June. The court location is to be confirmed at a later date.

Cllr Patrick Molyneux, Leader of Forest of Dean District Council, said: “We are obviously disappointed that Midcounties Co-operative has decided to challenge the permission, but we remain confident with the decision made and will continue to robustly defend our position.”
