NALC to develop new planning guides as part of support package

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) is to develop new planning guides for local councils, “to better reflect the current legislative and cultural climate”.

The Association said it was working with the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) and English Rural to update guides on planning and develop a new guide on housing design, as part of its support package on housing and planning matters.

NALC said: “Since 2011, national policy and legislation have shifted considerably. To better reflect the current legislative and cultural climate, NALC is committed to providing members with the most up-to-date support.”

The Association revealed it is in the “early stages” of all three guides.

It is asking local (parish and town) councils to provide feedback on existing planning guides by completing a short survey.

The organisation’s previous guides, Planning Explained, How to Respond to Planning Applications, and How to Shape Where You Live: A Guide to Neighbourhood Planning, were produced with CPRE to provide planning advice.
