Lincoln House barrister prosecutes trademarks case for North West council

Lincoln House Chambers barrister Leila Ghahhary has successfully prosecuted a trademarks case on behalf of Oldham Council.

The prosecution followed an investigation by the local authority’s Trading Standards Unit into potential offences involving counterfeit tobacco stocked and sold from a shop in the area.

Manchester Crown Court heard that searches were undertaken at the store on numerous dates by the unit. These uncovered hidden stashes of large quantities of counterfeit cigarettes and tobacco at the shops in Oldham town centre.

Other tobacco which was found, was produced outside the UK and broke consumer law by not bearing the correct health warnings.

The defendant received custodial sentences suspended for 12 months, was made the subject of a curfew order and was ordered to pay costs.
