Ian Adamson joined Bircham Dyson Bell as a trainee in 1981, became a partner in 1985 and is currently head of the firm’s Commercial Group.

Ian has a wealth of experience in commercial matters including drafting and negotiating contracts, resolving commercial legal problems and advising clients in the public, private and charity/not-for-profit sectors on their rights and obligations in relation to all types of commercial arrangement.  Ian has particularly extensive expertise in police law and considerable experience of advising police forces, police authorities and their commercial partners, including commercial third parties and local authorities, on commercial matters.

This includes unrivalled experience of advising on the ‘income generation’ provisions of Sections 18, 25, 92 and 93 of the Police Act 1996. Ian also deals with a wide range of commercial matters for charity/not-for-profit clients including drafting and amending constitutions, setting up and advising on trading arrangements, sponsorship, affinity card agreements, trademark licensing, charity mergers, de-mergers and joint ventures.

Ian is Bircham Dyson Bell’s Head of Privacy and Reputation Management group which advises on data protection, freedom of information, human rights and all aspects of privacy law.
