Obese girl could be taken into care: report
- Details
An obese 12-year-old girl could be taken into care after a doctor raised concerns about her health and this led to intervention by child social services, it has been reported.
The BBC has said that the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was found to have a "dangerously high" body mass index.
She has been placed into foster care for the duration of the case at a family court hearing by Leicester-based Judge Clifford Bellamy.
He said medical experts would give evidence about concerns regarding the child’s obesity before decisions about where she should live were made.
The court proceedings have been brought by a social services department.
Judge Bellamy has ordered that no-one in the case may be identified.
