Jeremy Allen to take over as Institute of Licensing chairman

Jeremy Allen, a founder of leading licensing law firm Poppleston Allen, has been elected as the new chairman of the Institute of Licensing.

Allen said he hoped to:

  • help the Institute obtain awarding body status
  • enhance the standing of licensing officers “particularly in the current economic climate”
  • ensure the Institute is properly represented to take part in discussions with government departments, and
  • promote links with the trade associations to enhance the Institute’s public position.

He will take up the role from 1 June 2011, replacing Philip Kolvin QC of 2-3 Gray’s Inn Square.

Allen said: “I believe that we are entering a difficult but potentially exciting time for the Institute. It is the only organisation that can properly represent the interests of all those involved in licensing whether they are licensing officers, police officers or licensing lawyers.

“I hope that I can successfully build on the considerable achievements of my predecessor, Philip Kolvin QC and the other officers of the Institute.”
