Six departments shortlisted for 2011 "Legal Team of the Year" award

Six local authority legal departments have been shortlisted for the “Legal Team of the Year” category at the 2011 LGC Awards.

They are:

• Cheshire West & Chester Council
• Essex Legal Services Partnership
• The London Borough of Islington
• Mansfield District Council
• Northampton Borough Council
• The London Borough of Southwark

Last year's winner, Essex County Council, won for its work on the use of well-being powers.

The “Council of the Year” category will see Blackburn with Darwen BC, Fenland DC, Southend-on-Sea BC, Teignbridge DC, Wakefield MBC and Westminster City Council go head to head.

Eight local authorities have meanwhile been shortlisted for “Most Improved Council of the Year”. They are: Cornwall Council; Harrow LBC; Lincolnshire CC; the London Development Agency; North East Derbyshire DC; Oldham Council; Surrey CC; and Torridge DC.

The awards will be handed out on 23 March 2011 at an event at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
