Royal borough submits judicial review claim over Mayor of London approval for 30-storey hotel redevelopment

The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea has submitted a claim for judicial review against the Mayor of London’s decision to grant planning permission for a major hotel development.

Approved by the Mayor in June, the Kensington Forum scheme involves a comprehensive redevelopment and erection of a part 30, part 22 and part 9 storey building comprising hotel bedrooms and serviced apartments.

There will also be ancillary bar, restaurants, conferencing and dining areas, leisure facilities and back of house areas; residential accommodation (Class C3).

The council’s planning committee had rejected the scheme, leading the Mayor to call it in. More information on the scheme can be found here.

Cllr Johnny Thalassites, Lead Member Transport and Planning, Kensington and Chelsea Council, said: “The council remains very disappointed at the decision to grant permission for an even bigger building on this site that is completely against the clear wishes of local residents and utterly unsuited to its location.”
