Appointment of 14th Housing Minister in just a decade expected after Lucy Frazer named Culture Secretary in cabinet reshuffle

Lucy Frazer has left her post as Minister of State for Housing and Planning to become the Culture Secretary as part of a Cabinet reshuffle announced today.

Her departure from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities comes just three months into her tenure there as Housing Minister.

Frazer's replacement, who is yet to be announced, will be the fifth Housing Minister to be appointed to the role in the last 12 months alone. There have been 13 Housing Ministers across the last decade.

Frazer was selected to replace Lee Rowley as Housing Minister in November 2022 by incoming Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The Government announced four new departments alongside today's cabinet reshuffle. These include a new Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, a Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, a Department for Business and Trade, and a "re-focused" Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
