Welsh Government consults on draft regulations for Welsh language standards

The Welsh Government has launched a four week consultation on draft regulations for its Welsh language standards.

Language standards are due to be put to the Welsh Assembly in March 2015 and will cover councils, national park authorities and Welsh ministries.

The consultation lasts until 5 December. It seeks views on improving the services Welsh-speakers can expect from these bodies, increasing the use of Welsh-language services, what services and information organisations must provide in Welsh and how to ensure there is consistency in the duties placed on different bodies.

First Minister Carwyn Jones said: “The introduction of the standards will be an important milestone. Not only will they create clear legal rights but they will also improve services and provide more opportunities for people to receive and use Welsh language services across Wales.”
