Pickles given knighthood and new anti-corruption role

Eric Pickles, the former Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, is to be given a knighthood and a new role as anti-corruption ‘tsar’, Downing Street has announced.

The honour is to be awarded for his services as an MP and to local government.

Pickles was Communities Secretary throughout the term of the coalition government from 2010 to 2015, but was replaced by Greg Clark following the election of a majority Conservative government earlier this month.

He has been MP for Brentwood and Ongar since 1992 and served as Chairman of the Conservative Party from 2009 to 2010.

Before entering Parliament, Pickles was Leader of Bradford Council from 1988 to 1990, having been first elected to the council in 1979.
