- Details
National law firm Weightmans has won a tender to provide legal advice to Liverpool City Council on the local authority’s response to the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
The legislation transfers responsibilities for public health to local authorities and will lead to the abolition of all 152 primary care trusts.
Following its appointment Weightmans will advise Liverpool on contractual, employment and constitutional issues.
Graeme Creer, Head of Local Government at Weightmans said: “The Health and Social Care Act 2012 brings some very complex and significant changes to the responsibilities of local authorities. It’s a great privilege to work alongside the City Council to ensure a smooth transition.”
Samih Kalakeche, Director of Adult Services and Health at Liverpool City Council, said: “This is the biggest change in the way public health is delivered for decades and it is crucial the transition is as smooth as possible.
“Weightmans' expertise and knowledge will be invaluable in ensuring we are able to deliver an excellent health service to the people of Liverpool.”
