Unlocking legal talent

Jonathan Bourne of Damar Training sets out why in-house council teams and law firms should embrace apprenticeships.

The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman’s governing board, the Commission for Local Administration in England, has two new members.

The Commission, which is an independent body funded by government grant, is the official title of the body that runs the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman service.

Deep Sagar and Professor Stephen J Perkins have joined the Commission alongside current members Michael King (Local Government Ombudsman and Chair of the Commission), Rob Behrens (Parliamentary and Health Care Ombudsman and ex-officio member) and advisory member, Carol Brady.

The new members, who replace Sir Jon Shortridge and David Liggins, will serve a four-year term.

Sagar, who was appointed as chair of the audit and risk assurance committee, he said: “I hope to support the service do even better for ordinary people. Councils and social care providers have important roles. Helping them serve people well through complaints resolution is a privilege.”

Professor Stephen J Perkins, who was appointed as chair of the remuneration committee, said: “The LGSCO is a vital institution, enabling injustice to be remedied and facilitating learning to prevent reoccurrence. I am delighted to be working with colleagues to support its effective governance through the Commission for Local Administration in England.”

Michael King, Local Government Ombudsman and Chair of the Commission, said: “I’m delighted to welcome both Deep and Stephen to the Commission. Our new members bring a wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors and I look forward to working with them.”
